About the program

Region Västmanland's PTP program offers you a high-quality internship. In addition to your base placement as a PTP psychologist, you will gain insight into other operations and the role and function of the psychologist. You will participate in seminars, study visits, and collegial meetings with other PTP psychologists and have good opportunities for experience exchange within the network. We have an appointed program director responsible for the program and maintain continuous contact with the PTP psychologists.

Before the autumn semester of 2026, you may be offered a position in the following operations:

• Child and adolescent psychiatry in Sala - with the opportunity to complete part of your PTP year at BUP Start
• Child and adolescent health in Västerås
• Habilitation center in Köping
• Adult psychiatric reception in Köping
• Adult psychiatric reception in Fagersta
• Adult psychiatric reception 2 in Västerås
• Adult psychiatric reception West in Västerås

Qualifications

You who apply must have a Swedish psychology degree at the start of PTP or have received a decision from the National Board of Health and Welfare to carry out practical training. If you have a decision from the National Board of Health and Welfare, it must be attached to the application.

We are looking for someone who wants to start their career with an interesting PTP program and an internship where you receive supervision from experienced psychologists. The PTP recruitment is a long-term investment and a foundation for our future psychologist recruitment. Therefore, we see it as a plus if you have local ties and a strong interest and commitment to Region Västmanland. Relevant experience from the areas you are applying to is also meritorious.

Competence package for newly licensed psychologists

For those who continue their employment with us after completing PTP, we offer a two-year competence package to provide a smoother transition between the role of PTP psychologist and licensed psychologist.

The competence package includes

• operation-specific course
• participation in a national/Nordic congress
• observation within primary care, habilitation, child and adolescent psychiatry, adult psychiatry, or forensic psychiatry (a total of five days)
• opportunity to take a supervisor training course in year 2
• personal follow-up by an experienced psychologist.

Comment from a newly licensed psychologist about the competence package:

"The psychology profession is a lifelong learning process, which requires time, knowledge, and support from experienced colleagues. This became particularly clear to me after my PTP year - obtaining the psychologist license does not necessarily mean that you are a finished psychologist. Employment conditions

Fixed-term employment for one year, full-time. The start date for the positions is in the autumn of 2026.
